Simrad ForwardScan® sonar imaging, the forward-looking technology that lets boaters know what lies beneath the water ahead, took the win for best Consumer Safety Equipment at last week’s 2015 Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) Innovation Awards in Florida.
“The best way to stay safe is to not hit anything in the first place!”
Judging committee member David Schmidt, Boating Writers International.
Designed for use with the latest Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 mutltifunction display systems, ForwardScan® sonar utilises a forward-looking transducer to create a clear two-dimensional view of the bottom ahead of a vessel, helping to avoid groundings in unfamiliar or poorly charted waters. ForwardScan® depth data is also integrated directly into the heading line on the navigation page of Simrad displays, offering boaters a simple colour-coded indication of the depth ahead.
ForwardScan® sonar offers easy installation on almost any vessel and hull type with a stainless steel through-hull fitting, direct connection to NSS evo2 displays, and simple connection to NSO evo2 systems via the Simrad SonarHub sounder module.
Operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI), and judged by a committee of BWI members, the MIBS Innovation Awards recognise “exceptionally innovative new consumer marine products”. This year drew a record number of entries, with 97 products competing in 17 categories.
This is the second consecutive MIBS Innovation Award for Simrad Yachting, with the NSS16 evo2 glass bridge display taking the award for Consumer Electronics, Mobile Applications and Software at the 2014 show.
